Being Mary Jane S2E7 "Not So Crazy"

This episode is titled "Let's Go Crazy" but it wasn't at all crazy! The morning after her decision to get impregnated by David, Mary Jane is already rethinking her choices. She wants David to go back with his first baby mother. Only if she is pregnant does she want to be with him. David, naturally doesn't understand this, since he wants to be with her baby or no baby, and he can't quite understand MJ's special kind of logic so he complies. She then goes on a cleaning spree, which includes pouring out her liquor, taking pregnancy tests and re buying said liquor.

Later on Mary Jane has a guest on her show that prompts her to try and find herself. This leads her to apologizing to Niecy. Neicy at this point doesn't live for her aunts approval anymore, which i was relieved to see. Mary Jane for all her good intentions, can be so overwhelming at times. On a sidenote: Niecy looked so nice when she was trying on those clothes. Kudos to BET for showing a big girl like that!

She reaches out to those she's wronged and tries to apologize, which also included her father. One of the other person she calls is Neisha "a friend" who's last name she doesn't even know. She tells her that she is trying to change her life around. She admits that she slept with David, but that she wasn't able to get pregnant. So that means she doesn't want to be with him, no matter how much she "loves him with all her heart". She hasn't told David yet, and in a heat of the moment she texts him she is not pregnant. WOW! Really Bitch? This is the so called love of her life, but ok?

Again, I really don't understand. David loves Mary Jane; Mary Jane loves David. David ex is pregnant but they don't love each other, but they are willing to stay with each other for the baby. But David confesses his love and have sex with Mary Jane repeatedly. Mary Jane does the same. But yet, they can't be together. Does this make any sense?? It can't be this complicated.

Moving On: David is with MJ's brother, Paul Jr. talking over the deal he wants him to sponsor. He gets MJ's text and immediately says he can't do a the deal with him. Paul is very upset and tells David off for playing with his sisters emotions, but really they keep screwing each other over so yea...!

At work Mary Jane is pushing to change her brand at work, and wants to do more Black focused stories. She brings her ideas to one of the heads of the network. This whole conversation is kinda confusing to me though. But yea network isn't really going for it.

Back home and comfortable with her decisions of self realization. She takes out her weave and has to call Niecy to do her hair after her hair dresser cancels late. They have a nice conversation over wine.

Through out the episode Mary Jane has been playing Eykah Badu, I think as a way to empower her decisions. At the end she plays "Pills N' Potions", and dances to her decisions.

The Walking Dead S5E14 "RIP Noah"

So I already knew Noah 'Everybody Hate Chris' dies. Now I know why since they are showing him way too much in this episode. He starts out the episode consulting with Deana's husband seeking for an apprenticeship. He's asked "So you're looking for the long haul?". He's also flirting with some Holly girl. Yep, he sealed his faith. Dammit it, now I know he's going to die, watching it is even sadder!

A group goes out searching for something to fix the the power grid, which is 'acting up'. Glen, Tara, Noah, Aiden and Nicholas (new guys). They even force Eugene to go out with them since he's the only one who knows what they are looking for, even though he doesn't want to go; let him stay. Jeez, peer pressure is a bitch! And then they make him go out with this tiny chick, Tara.  They find what they are looking for in a warehouse  and stumble upon a walker with military armor. One if the new guys Aiden, Deanna's son, continue shooting him before they realize he has a grenade on him. He dies after being impaled on some metal, and is eaten by walkers. Nicholas, the OD coward, kills Noah by being a selfish asshole!!! He's pulled apart and eaten right in front of Glen's eyes (poor Glen!). So 6 enter and only 4 makes it out. They don't show what happened to Nicholas, I think Glen either leaves a him behind or kills him. He doesn't deserve to live though. Eugene manages to escape to the car with Tara.

Another group including Abraham, the red head, is off getting more sidings so they can extend the walls. Of course walkers come out and he manages to fends them off and in the end becomes lead contractor. Maggie sits in as a Deanna's protege and rallies for her team.
Rick is still flirting with his neighbor. Her husband stops by hoping to have a beer and hoping to be friends.

Poor Carol, this kid is back and really wants more cookies! She complies, just to keep him quiet and in the process figures out the good doctor has been beating his wife and sons. She tells Rick, and surmises that the only way out is if he kills him.

Pastor turn to go through some things, like Sasha from the past episode. He's in a church ripping up a bible. I'm so mad he's still in his minister outfit, and still questioning the hell out of his faith. In the end he goes to Deanna and completely bad mouths Rick and the group saying they can't be trusted. After they saved his life multiple times. What makes them so bad for this new community? Besides the fact that they are plotting a take over) Maggie of course over hears him bashing them.

Side note: Darryl is shown riding his new motorcycle off to go recruiting!

Empire S1E10 "Cookie and Malcolm..."

K-I-S-S-I-N-G

Andre is at the hospital being treated for his bipolar disorder. The whole family is there to support him except Lucious of course. They are talking about his current course of treatment and Jennifer Hudson is introduced as his Music therapist. Cookie is there acting all kids of 'ignant' about his disorder and blaming white people for it. They flashback to when he had his first manic episode, him coming home from college out of the blue and showering his family with gifts. We see a cameo of Mary J. Blige singing with Luscious. (I realize they never say the actual age if the sons, in the flashback Andre is in his junior year of college so about 20-22, Jamal is playing himself, and Hakeem is played by a boy, looks to be about 8 or 9) They try to make Andre feel better since the IPO is happening soon and it's all because of him. He doesn't want to hear none of that. He doesn't even want to go to the signing sending his wife instead as his proxy.

The IPO signing is coming up and Lucious is busy planning the shares his family will get. He is giving Cookie a share (to keep her out of the way) and also plans on marrying her. But we quickly see Cookie has other things on her mind, when Malcolm comes into her office and confess that he has indeed fallen for her, thus ensuing in their magical kiss... FINALLY! I've said that Cookie could do way better than Luscious.

Olivia, Jamal's ex-wife, is seen trying to catch a bus out of town but is stopped by her abusive ex boyfriend who seems to think that she and her daughter are his possession. They go off in order to get Lola back.

The group meets up at Lucious house for the signing. Hakeem is there with his older girlfriend, Camilla, which rubs Lucious and Cookie the wrong way. He plays them his new son, fittingly titled "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number". Later on Lucious gets Camilla to himself and tries to blackmail her into leaving Hakeem. He knows she is in debt and could use the money. Camilla rips up his check and fires back at him saying she'll be back in 6 months when he's a "vegetable in a wheelchair". Since Camilla knows about about his ALS, couldn't she threaten to go public and end the whole IPO deal?

Olivia and her crazed ex boyfriend joins the family at the house. They are here to get Lola, but her ex has some business to settle with Jamal, since he was the one who got Olivia pregnant long before  she mey him? The logic of a crazy person. He pulls a gun on the family and soon has the gun to Cookie's head Lucious tries to diffuse the situation and admits that Jamal isn't Lola's father, he is. (Wow, they really want us to hate Lucious). Malcolm quickly comes in and shoots the ex in the head. Cookie is safe!

Olivia was trying to keep Lola safe, while she hide out from her abusive ex. They show her leaving with Lola, but I'm guessing Lucious is going to have to pay child support.

In the end, the family is disgusted at Lucious and Cookie wants Malcolm to take her away! (Calgon, Calgon...)

Being Mary Jane S2E6 'Baby Crazy'

She has a thing for Post Its

Mary Jane is continuing with her goal of getting pregnant. Last Episode, she found out that her egg freezing procedure wasn't as successful as her doctor hoped, which unfold on live TV. Why was it live? I'm happy that she was able to pull herself together enough to finish the broadcast. Still, she decided to continue with the process of getting freezing her eggs. There's a countdown to 'extraction' continuously shown on screen, which is when she's ovulating and the eggs are ripe to harvest.

David, the man she can't seem to get over and who is having a baby with another woman, is also having second thoughts about his decisions. He tells Mary Jane he feels trapped into his relationship because of the baby. Since when do men feel trapped in this day and age, especially by a baby.  I understand he wants his child to grow up in a two-person household, but if you don't love the woman and don't want to be with her then let her know now. Not sneak around seeing your ex and confess your love for her. Also, Mary Jane needs to get over herself. Its never too late for her and David. He just needs break it off with her and come to her an honest man. He can still be good father.

I think the writers are pushing her away from David so that she can get closer to the Sheldon Dewitt, a successful (occupation?), who is she's been trying to score an interview with. He calls her having an exclusive tip about the breaking news happening at the moment: a Black, successful wall street man threatening suicide in his car. While on the phone with Sheldon, her producer/best friend Kara is seen looking over towards her either jealousy or suspiciously.

"... the life of a black man today is significantly more difficult than any other single demographic... including that of black woman"

She precedes to go over to his home so that she can get the tip. The have a heated discussion about the states of black men and women in the workforce and who has been more disadvantaged. I don't agree with everything Mary Jane says on this show, but I liked when she defended black women, but then she goes and attacks black men. Anyway, in the end she agrees to go on a date with Sheldon, after he gets back in town.

Mary Jane precedes to use the information she received from Sheldon on her show, which put more strain on her friendship with Kara, for some reason. I'm not sure what Kara's beef was, but it was a good report.

Later on Mary Jane is asked to rush over to her suicidal friend Lisa's home. I'm not sure why Lisa is so jealous of Mary Jane. Lisa a doctor and has a career in her own right, but seems to think that Mary Jane has it all including the love of David. Apparently, Lisa was friends with David first but never made a move. Lisa is fine but once again she gets into yet another argument with Mary Jane. I think this is their 3rd of 4th argument this season, over the same topic.

Mary Jane leaves and calls David over. She has decided not to get her eggs harvested anymore and wants David to knock her up, now that she is at peak ovulation. David complies willingly, without even a second thought of the other woman carrying his baby.

The Walking Dead S5E13 'Big Black Horse"

RIP Buttons

(So I'm starting with 3 episodes left in this season...sorry!)

The group just found Alexandria a seemingly safe, fenced in town, that has electricity and running water. They finally get to SHOWER AND BRUSH THEIR TEETH!!!
Since all the characters are doing their own thing, I'll break it down that way. The episode starts with Daryl, Rick and Carol in the woods plotting their takeover of this new town, because they see themselves as the saviors of these helpless people. I want to say it's a good plan but for some reason it's giving me 'Govenor' déjà vu. How he was really nice at first but then eventually the evil side came. I really hope they don't turn  out to be evil, because these seem like good people, totally unprepared and disillusioned but still good.

Rick as the leader of the group is in survivor mode for them,  even though it seems that he is starting to develop feelings for his neighbor, Jessie,  who is married with kids. Let's hope it goes nowhere because I really want them to fit in with these new people and being a home wrecker would not be good, especially since her husband is the only Doctor they have. Rick and Michonne are made the new Sheriffs of the town, and while Rick questions these motives of making the newbies the law enforcers, Michonne jumps right in. They both don the uniforms, (tie and all), and patrol the streets. It suits Rick finely but I hate seeing Michelle in that uniform or at least lose the tie. Michonne is so comfortable that she even hangs up her Katana (sadly) in her new home, a sign that she's ready to fit in and move on.
Partna
Daryl is off with Andy, the one who recruited them and gay,  are off on an adventure trying to catch a black horse (symbolism?), Buttons. I recently saw Norman Reedus (who plays Daryl) on Conan O'Brien where he said that there's a theory that is character might be gay. I think this might be the start of some character insight, either way I'll be happy to know about him. After their adventure ended, with the horse sadly being taken over by walkers (RIP Buttons), Daryl and Andy bond. Later that night, Daryl skips out on the Welcome Party to have dinner with Andy and Eric, his partner. We find out that they would like Daryl to go recruit with Andy, since "he can tell good people from bad". Daryl accepts this proposal, and to sweeten the deal they show him their (playroom) garage, where a Motorcycle is waiting for him to build. So something is definitely brewing there there, which I am excited for because I do love my gays!

Carol is in charge of securing guns for Daryl and Rick, as she is the self proclaimed 'invisible' woman. She fits in by playing the homemaker role and is able to spy without drawing attention to herself. While slipping out of the Party to raid the gun room, she is followed by a kid who was expecting more of her famous cookies. Let' just say that kid will not be telling anyone what he saw. She can be one scary mofo when she wants to be!

Kid did not die...(yet)!

Lastly Sasha. Poor Sasha seems to be having some sort of PTSD/ mental breakdown. She's just suffered the loss of her brother, and before that her boyfriend (to cannibals). I can understand how tough it is to around all these people that feel safe and and family members around them. I hope that she gets the help she needs though, before she does anything stazy (stupid/crazy), as she's known to do. That first scene of her shooting the picture frames in the wood, the way the tension built with the music was brilliant; I felt the anxiety she must be feeling.

Later on we got to see the group and the Welcome Party, where it showed the normalcy these new people are used. Carol baked her famous cookies, there was wine and beer and even those tiny little sword spears that Michonne took a liking to. We got to see more of the new people, and even met Deanna's (Alexandra's leader) husband and son (cute) and might be a new beau for Sasha. Sasha on the other hand was not feeling it, and spazzed out when someone asked her for her favorite dish.

Side note: Rick, Carol and Daryl while in the woods, take out a walker with a W carved into his head. Wonder what that means. There could be a rival town somewhere that starts with a W.

Also Jessie's son stamps Rick's hand with the letter A showing he is one of them now.  Could it be the A's vs. the W's. We'll see!

It was a semi slow episode, as has most of this season. Next week's episode showed some promise of action.

Empire S1E9 "Take These Cookies"

Empire (Fox)
Cookie, the shows main female protaganist, is obviously every one's new fave female lead, after Olivia Pope. She's strong, intelligent, knows her business, and a go getter, with all the attitude everyone wanted and needed.  I'm pretty sure the 'Empire' will go to her. That has to be the endgame after she's worked so hard.

Where's the scene on Porsha spying on Anika?!  I woul And why does Anika still want to be with Lucious after he cheated on her? Lucious was dumb enough to betray her after he's given her all this power and expecting her not to fight back? So now she's working with their rival, Creedmore trying to steal Lyon's artists. And why are record executives riding around with securities with guns? When Mr. Creedmore pulled the gun Lyon, it lost all it's credibility.

Jamal is cute, but no D'Angelo in that first scene with him. They tried it though. I'm happy Jamal finally came out, and it wasn't a long drawn out secret (like another still in the closet cowboy from another show I watch: Nashville).I have to say his voice along with Estelle's was amazing.

Lucious talks a lot about family sticking together, but he treats his sons despicably without them provoking him.  Cookie can definitely do better than Lucious who is a racist and homophobic towards their sons. He doesn't respect his gay son's opinion even when he was trying to bring in a major artist, and he doesn't want to leave his Empire to his oldest son, because he married a white woman. He may be the father of her children but I hope she moves on to someone better.

I don't see why Andre's 'the untalented one' continuing spiral into manic isn't more obvious to his family members, especially if this is something that has happened before. Although he seems to be showing more passion off his meds and seems a bit more relaxed, since he started out the show as this tight laced, no fun person. If only he can reign it in so that his manic side doesn't take over as much. The scene with the gun in the booth was pretty scary though in the episode before.
The brotherly scene in the elevator was quite touching. For the first time they showed some semblance of a sibling bond.

It was a pretty good episode, though I didn't get what the build up was, or 'what everyone would be talking about', except "Take these cookies ".

What is a TV Soup you ask?

TV Soup (n.) - A person that loves watching TV to the point that it annoys someone else (mostly Moms); someone that never gets bored from watching TV
Typical TV Soup Sh*t (my cat Wiffee)

Well, I tried googling 'TV Soup definition' and I all got was references to TV Soap and the TV show The Soup, which I find very weird. I have been hearing this term my whole life, mostly directed towards me, from my mom and family members. It must be a Caribbean thing.  So the definition above is what I had to invent.

Ok, let's get down to it. I love TV. I love cable. I love my DVR. I love Netflix, HULU, online streamers (including the illegal ones). In a week, I would say I watch a total of 30 shows, mostly DVR'd (cuz ain't nobody got time for commercials). Some shows I watch out of sheer enjoyment, entertainment, boredom, and others out of loyalty (I'm looking at you Glee).  I watch new series, old series, reruns, cartoons, reality shows, drama, mystery, comedy etc.

Another thing I also love to do is read recaps of some the shows I watch. Recently, I stumbled upon Vulture.com and the recaps they do of some of the shows I watch. They were funny and insightful and in some instances showed how I felt. That is the reason I created this Blog, as a way to jot down some one my thoughts and reactions and share them with the Internet. Maybe I'll get some responses, then again maybe I won't.

I am not a writer, but I really just wanted to try something out here. So let's see how this goes!
